I am excited to announce that I will be running the Chicago marathon this October. While this isn’t my first marathon (I ran my last one in 2010) it feels like I am starting from scratch. I was 28 years old the last time I ran a marathon - no kids yet and all the time in the world.
As I train for this year’s marathon I am feeling every bit of the 15 years that have passed each time I lace up my shoes to run. My legs feel heavier, my recovery from a long run takes longer and my confidence in making the full 26.2 miles often feels shaky, but I have a couple of things on my side.
One - I am running this marathon with my older brother. My brother and I inherited our love of running from our dad and the two of us are so excited to be carrying on his running legacy.
Two - my brother and I get in run in support of an amazing organization called Chicago Run. Chicago Run empowers thousands of young people from Pre-K through high school with equitable access to inclusive running and physical activity programs. Through the power of sport, Chicago Run builds resilience to stress and trauma and develop social and emotional skills. You can learn more about the important work they are doing here.
Every dollar I raise will advance Chicago Run's great cause and will help Chicago’s youth find their physical and mental strength through running.
Thank you so much for your support - your donations will be the fuel to keep me going!
